Coming of Age
John (2:10) relates
That Jesus of Nazareth’s first miracle,
Upon entering unto manhood,
Was to turn water into wine,
At a marriage feast, at Cana.
Now, after almost twenty centuries,
Years filled with striving,
With setback and remorse,
Mankind is at last in the happy position
Of being able to announce the success
Of his inaugural miracle:
He has turned the wine
Back into water.
